This was a dream I had & jotted down on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 –
The dream began with me closing the curtains by my dining room table, and then moving to the kitchen to bake, I was taking out the flour when I felt someone watching me - I looked towards the dining room where the curtain was again open, and in front of the window stood a little rotund man watching me.
I screamed and screamed and he just smiled at me and walked away. I ran to the door, flung it open and ran out after him...he was just at the front of my building and was standing with a little rotund woman, his wife I guess. I demanded (as I know I would in waking time) to know why the hell he was looking at me through my window.
He said, "I couldn't help it, you looked so happy and in your element, getting out the bowls and flour, preparing for company." He and his wife walked away - the woman wore a white dress with pretty orange flowers printed on it...the man wore earthy greens and browns, and as I stood several feet from them, I noticed just how super little they both were - all of 4 feet tall maybe.
My fury at him evaporated, and I turned to walk back into my apartment, and that's when that young woman appeared...sort of wandering aimlessly in the yard near my door. She kept her eyes to the ground and approached me asking for food in between her incoherent mumblings.
I asked "What would you like to eat?" and she replied "bread, and fruit." I opened my door, then turned to hold my hand out to prevent her from entering my place and said, "I'll be right back with some food." I closed the door, locked it and raced back to my kitchen to secure the items she requested.
She called out "Do you have any?"
"Yes, yes! Just a minute, I’ll be right there!" I replied, as I was adding extra items to what she had requested. I carried the items back to the door, opened it and sat down in the entry way while she sat on the threshold, and ate and ate...mumbling incoherently.
The young lady wore her dirty hair in a cropped mess of black and blue dye, no shoes, black leggings and a gray tattered hoodie. She did not make eye contact as she ate and spoke incoherently, and still I sat with her and listened. Eventually, after she took a bite of the bread, she began to speak of herself, and I could now understand her, I asked questions about where she came from, and her life was hard.
As she finished eating, she sat back, legs stretched she said "I have been treated like that man that no one liked, I learned about him in school and I don't know why I can't remember his name." With that she stood up, tall and lithe; she looked me in the eyes and said "No one ever took the time to sit and listen to me before" and as she spoke she transformed - her hair grew out long and chestnut brown, her face oval and fair, her eyes sharp and alert, the glassiness had completely dissolved.
As she walked across the lawn, she turned and looked back at me, said "Thank you so much, I'll come and see you soon." I noticed she now wore a beautiful flowing dress, and as I turned to close the door, I was transported to her place, her 'home' in a park - she was with a group of 4 friends, two guys and a pregnant woman - all of them near in age. The young pregnant woman entered the single public restroom and locked the door behind her. The young woman who visited me sat herself down in front of the bathroom's steel door and waited, the young men moved a bit further off and turned to face the door. Neither of them were responsible for the pregnancy, but they had no intention of leaving the woman and the child to their own devices.
The one who visited me spoke to the one in the bathroom "Is the baby coming?"
"No! You'll know when the baby's time is near."
Maybe some minutes passed, then I could hear from behind the door the young woman begin to moan...and as she moaned with each contraction - storm clouds moved in. As her contractions came on stronger and stronger, so too did the storm. The ones on the outside looked up to the skies and waited it out. I noticed from my place a bit above the scene that there was a pond or maybe it was a man-made pool not a few paces from the door to the bathroom, and as the storm wailed and trashed above, I could see it reflected in the dark waves of the water. The rain came down like a torrent, and just as quickly - it all stopped and I knew the child had been born. "She called the storm so we would not fear for her pain" said the one who visited me, and as she turned to wait for the door to open...
....I woke up.
